Good morning, Friends!
At school, yesterday morning, I tried to inject a little humor into the classroom by expounding on what I felt was the raison d'etre behind teacher's pet project: the use of handkerchiefs througout history. Scowling enormously, Mr. Doakes felt there had been both a sizeable infringement upon his authority and an encroachment upon his dignity; he did forthwith eject me from class and said never to return . . .
I cried hugely into my hankie. . . .

When proofreading and editing for writers, I encourage them to use verbs in their sentences; often, the sentences in question describe no action or state of being. In addition, I advise against overuse of adverbs. Sometimes, too, conjunctions may be left out to create a particular effect: I came, I saw, I conquered.

Hello, Friends!
I endeavor, whenever I wear my worsted wool suit, to whistle a happy tune because I cannot help but be lured into a patch of thistle once I have found myself nattily attired. Jumping in with all fours is my peculiar, unexplained wont. I love the feel of nettles on my tough hide, but it's quite the chore for my long-suffering dry cleaner's operator.
He just smiles, and whistles a happy tune . . .

Here, in the USA, we call them potato chips, so we would never say "bet you can't each just one crisp!' No matter, because they are crispy and crunchy on either side of the big pond, unless, of course, the bag topples into the sea and the distraught muncher declares them to be, henceforth, "potato soggs"!

Greetings, dear ones!
Meadows the Erudite spoke with too many syllables, which caused his arrogant master with low self esteem to declare that his butler must think himself better than his betters. No man is invincible in the face of blind, unreasoning envy. Meadows, aware of his master's mental and moral weaknesses, knew that, in the foreseeable future, he would be forced to seek a new and, it is hoped, situation preferable to the one he currently holds.

greetings, my aging friends!
before asking you this question, i tried to do some research on the thought that 'hard work never killed anyone,' but, man, can it cripple you!
what i wanted to figure out is something better than you're getting older and tireder.. many of us have done hard physical labor most of our lives and see no prospect of retirement.
Good morning, villagegirl, AnneB, Hortensia, snowbird, LisaRose, jgnat, Scott77, LV101, JWdaughter and Nancy:
Here's hoping you had a relaxing and "pain-free" weekend!
The experiences you related and how you cope with coping are reassuring for us never-to-grow-old-in-this-system-of-things-yet-nevertheless-aging enlightened ones.
Yes, we want to be strong and not give in, not give up. The soldiering forth of weaker and older friends has strenghtened my resolve. I tell these people how their example continues to encourage me not to quit trying.
Drink lots of water! Eschew soft drinks!
Thanks so much!
Love,
CoCo

Thank you, dear friends, for all your kind words and helpful advice.
I hope to respond later after I rest up from work. My intent has been that the information and personal experiences posted on this thread should help us as we age yet endeavor to remain positive in our thinking. You all seem very upbeat in your outlook, and I'm grateful for that!
Love and peace,
CoCo
